This is our first priority and enusures the light hitting you will be soft and beautiful. It's best to shoot within two hours of either sunrise or sunset. Open shade is one of the most flattering lighting conditions for portraits. It gives us soft light, natural colors, and even skin tones. By combining open shade with clean backgrounds and mindful positioning, we can create images that feel warm, connected, and true to your story.

Throughout your session, my goal is to keep you in soft, even, and flattering light. If we’re in an area with trees or uneven shade that creates spotty light on your skin, I’ll guide you to a clearer spot with open shade. This type of lighting helps create smooth, consistent tones and keeps your images looking natural and beautiful. It also keeps the focus where it belongs - on you!

Backgrounds play a huge role in how your final images feel. I aim for clean, simple scenes that keep the attention on you—not what’s behind you. Bright “hot spots,” busy areas, or thick brush can pull focus and create harsh contrasts, so I’ll guide you away from anything that competes with the subject.
I look for clear, open areas where light filters softly behind you. This prevents dark, heavy backgrounds (like dense bushes) and ensures your portraits feel airy and bright instead of being lost in a “black hole” backdrop.

I will do my best to ensure your location and background are beautiful, avoiding distracting backgrounds and showcasing the reason you chose it. I’ll also provide photography location tips to help achieve even light photography and utilize open shade photography for the best results.
