Guiding kids through the session
STAY FLEXIBLE
When it comes to photographing children, flexibility is everything. Little ones are naturally unpredictable, and that’s part of what makes their images so special. I always adapt to their energy and needs during your session. If they need to run, play, or get a little silly, I let them do just that before we ease into the moments we need to capture.
If they prefer to be held rather than stand on their own, we’ll adjust — comfort always comes first. I read each child’s cues throughout the session so we can photograph them in the most natural, flattering light and create images that feel genuine, joyful, and true to who they are.
MAKE IT FUN
This one’s a big one!
Keeping your family session fun is the secret to capturing those genuine smiles you adore. Sometimes that means I’ll be the one making silly sounds, singing off-key, or doing a goofy dance behind the camera. Other times, you might jump in with a quick game of peek-a-boo or a little tickle attack. Whatever brings out those sweet giggles and real connections — that’s exactly what we’ll lean into.
BRING BRIBES
And when all else fails… bribes to the rescue!
A little incentive can go a long way with kids during a photo session. Feel free to bring along a few small treats — think gummies, mini candies, or another simple favorite. If we need to pause for a quick treat break to keep spirits high, we absolutely will. Happy kiddos always make for the sweetest photos!
